I’ve always been fascinated by religion. In my paintings friends, family and fellow artists play characters in religious scenes or allude to mystical iconography. Such myths and images express our collective experience as humans. Basic truths can be found in them, and they are tangible ways we can speak of those ideas that are intangible.

These images are also personal. I choose my imagery and compositions intuitively and as such, I see them as an opportunity to examine my own Self. They are glimpses of my unconscious – they say something about what makes me, me. Intellectually, spiritually and emotionally, my psyche is exposed.

However, they are more than this. Hung on the wall, they become less about the person who created them, and more about the person who is standing in front of them. Just as I see a reflection of my own self in them, the viewers must undergo the same sort of introspection. Empathy catapults the viewer to "try on" the character in the image, suggesting that which makes us individuals, but also that which makes us human.
